I Hate UPS

On Tuesday of last week, 03/08/11, I placed an order with Newegg, they responded very quicky and shipped it out the same day. Then while most of the packages made their way up I-15 one looked like it was still sitting in California. Unfortunately that package was the one with the most critical parts such as the motherboard and hard drives. Friday I got the monitors and computer case, but not the guts of the system. I called UPS and they didn’t know where it was, so I contacted Newegg and filed a claim. Monday morning I finally saw an update on the package. It was in Maryland. Sorry, but Maryland is not on the way to Idaho.

I tweeted about it and very quickly recieved a reply from someone with UPS customer service, he was very friendly, but ultimately wasn’t able to help, so the package made its way by ground back to Idaho. Since the updated delivery date was tomorrow I had him place a hold request so I could pick it up on my lunch break. Then this morning I saw this:

This was very exciting, it’s in Boise, ID being held for pickup! So I drove down to the local UPS location to find out that it wasn’t here yet. DAMN IT UPS! Not only did I not get to do the project I was planning on last weekend, but I just wasted 45 minutes today driving across town and back, for nothing. Here’s why UPS sucks:

  • They failed to scan in my package during loading which meant that it was able to be put on the wrong truck headed the wrong direction (east instead of north).
  • When they realized it was on the wrong side of the country they sent it back by ground. I should not have to wait an extra week for their failure. That package should have been on the next flight to Salt Lake so I would have had it the day after they realized their mistake.
  • Their website could have been a lot more clear. If it says it’s in Boise being held for pickup it and that I have five business days to pick it up at my convenience, it had better be available.
Fortunately, when I update the claim with Newegg, they will refund my shipping costs (unfortunately most of it was free shipping) and UPS will have to reimburse Newegg. In the end, Newegg wins and UPS and I lose. I hate UPS.
Damn, now I have to go to work. Have a good day.

  1. Same thing happened to me this morning! I arrived at my local UPS store to pickup my package of which I got a notification saying it was ready to be picked up, and when I got there, the guy couldn’t find it. He made almost no effort to look around for my package either. I was very displeased! When I got home, I called UPS Customer Service and I complained. I gave them my tracking number and all my info. They took their time in calling my local store so they could look for it. Customer Service called me back and apparently they found it.. supposedly it was on “the wrong shelf”…
I was very pleased with Customer Service for finding my package for me. But I absolutely would never request to have my package sent to my local UPS store anymore because obviously the owner there does not have his shit together.
