Operating systems are kind of like religion.
Mac OS X is kind of like Islam. It controls every aspect of life and it works very well with other Macs and very poorly with any other system. It even admits to its controlling nature, it just does it because it thinks it knows what’s best for the user.
Windows is more like Christianity. It controls most of your life, but leaves some room for choice. If you want to do something that it thinks might be dangerous, it will stop everything you are doing to warn you of the potential risk (even though it’s almost always safe) and make you confirm that you really want to do it, only then it will let you do what you want. This latest version works very poorly with any other OS and even older versions of Windows, after all they’re all inferior and evil. Periodically it needs restarted (a revival). If you leave the same installation on your machine too long it’ll get very unstable, slow, and eventually unusable, then it’s time to reformat (reformation).
Linux is like atheism. It’s a non-hierarchal system where people can freely take what they want, build on others work, tweak things to fit their own needs, and find freedom. It never asks for you money, never needs reinstalled, and can be perfectly stable for a very long time.
In case you missed it I’m not only an atheist, but I’m also an avid Linux user. I highly recommend both, they are very liberating!
Of course considering that 17% of visits to this site from actual computers (smart phones don’t count) are from people using various forms of Linux (Ubuntu, Redhat, Mint, etc) and odds are that most are atheists, so I’m preaching to the choir here.
