The website is down, please hold

Anybody who has ever worked in IT or had to call someone in computer support will get a kick out of this. Some of the pretty standard responses I remember giving as a computer support tech were:

“Please hold…”
“Have you restarted your computer? Okay, please do that and then call back if you have the problem again.”
“Please hold…”
“Okay, so you’ve restarted your computer and it’s still doing that? Completely shut down the computer, wait about eight seconds then start it up, if it’s still happening call back.”
“Please hold…”
“Now shut down your computer, remove the power cable, then hold down the power button for eight seconds. Let go of the power button, plug it back in, and start it back if. If the problem persists call back and we’ll see what we can do.”
“Please hold…”

On rare occasion would we actually make people hold for any reason other than a power play. Also, if any of us were stupid enough to remote desktop into our personal computers and leave it connected when we walked away, you could expect everything to be pink, icons to be missing, or worse…

You may have noticed that the web server is running on Fedora with a GUI…that’s ridiculous, unless of course it’s a remote desktop server that has an SSH connection to the server.
