This is going to seem like satire, but sadly it’s not. Pollster’s from Public Policy Polling recently asked 928 registered voters about how good of a job they thought God was doing.
Here are the four questions the survey asked about God:
1) If God exists, do you approve or disapprove of its performance?
Approve …………..52%
Disapprove ………. 9%
Not sure ………….40%2) If God exists, do you approve or disapprove of its handling of natural disasters?
Approve …………..50%
Disapprove ……….13%
Not sure …………..37%3) If God exists, do you approve or disapprove of its handling of animals?
Approve ……………56%
Disapprove ………..11%
Not sure ……………33%4) If God exists, do you approve or disapprove of its handling of creating the universe?
Approve …………….71%
Disapprove ………… 5%
Not sure …………….24%
I’m actually kind of surprised that, assuming such a being exists, only a slight majority approves of God’s performance. It’s worth noting that this is 19 points higher than the congressional approval rating.
What’s horrifying about this is 50% apparently approve of events like the Japanese earthquake from a few months ago, the 2005 Tsunami, and Hurricane Katrina, while 56% approve of the current wave of mass extinction. I can understand the 71% approval on the “creation” of the universe, but even then, you would have to include the earth, and a creation that wouldn’t cause earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes has a lot of room for improvement.
On the plus side, there are a lot of people who aren’t sure. That gives me hope that religion and faith are quickly losing their grip on the populous.
