When life sucks the secular community steps up

I’m headed to Portland for a family emergency in the morning and the first few friends in the atheist community that I’ve told about it have been awesome. The first thing religious people are likely to say is, “I’ll keep you in my prayers.” The first response I’ve gotten from secular people is, “What can I do to help.” Of course, I got the same thing from people at work, whether religious or no, of course they know I’m an atheist.

The situation really sucks. I mean it sucks more than can be imagined. I hope he pulls through…
