My den has horrible acoustics. If you listen to the Atheist Nomads episode we released yesterday, Wesley sounds great and I sound like crap. Part of the issue was that I had the mic too far away to avoid pop, but I have installed a pop filter so in tests I’ve run I can get a lot closer which makes my voice sound more rich. I also have a bit of an echo in most of my place, but it’s especially bad where I had my desk in my den. The walls are hard with very little texture in the paint, the floors are hard wood, and I don’t have much furniture or other decorations. I had my desk tucked into a recessed area, which unfortunately had by far the worst echo of any spot in my house.
Don’t worry, I’m fixing this. Just rotating my desk 90 degrees and moving over to the edge of it helps remove a fair amount of echo, but I’m also going to install some sound dampening materials, including an area rug. I will fix this before we record the next episode.
