Until just recently, every exoplanet found has been observed indirectly by watching it’s effects on the star it’s orbiting. It’s now been announced that one has been directly observed a mere 170 light-years away.
Kappa Andromedae b has a mass that is 13 times that of Jupiter, placing it right on the upper limit of what would be considered a planet and just below the size to be considered a brown dwarf.
Talk about awesome.
