Definition of an Asshat
Bishop David Ricken posted his most recent newsletter a few days ago (PLEASE READ PDF HERE). Wondering what tasty rhubarb pie recipes are in there? Perhaps the new births in the last month? That’s the sort of thing I’d hope to find in his writings… What I wouldn’t expect is a list of things that are “intrinsically evil”, like: abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, and homosexual “marriage”. Even less expected was Bishop David saying,
To vote for someone in favor of these positions means that you could be morally “complicit” with these choices which are intrinsically evil. This could put your own soul in jeopardy.
This asshole is threatening eternal hell on people who vote in candidates that ‘ole Bishop David doesn’t want you to vote for. It does not get much worse than that – until you read the next paragraph talking about “Obamacare”. (Since there is no evidence for an afterlife and that makes this the only life we have, that definately makes the next worse in my book.)
In the new plan, only Catholic people can be treated by Catholic institutions. It has never been our mission to be exclusive of those who are not of our faith. This mandate also places Catholic business owners in a very precarious position in that they, too, will have to pay for those medical “services” which violate Catholic teaching.
I’ve never read such a bunch of codswallop in so short a bit of text… In fact, I am starting to think his robes are tinfoil lined.
Rick Unger re-posted the salient points made by Celia Muñoz, Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council. Celia said churches have always been exempted from anything that goes against the churches beliefs. No one is required to prescribe OR take prescribed birth control pills / devices. Pills that abort a pregnancy like RU486 are not covered by these policies. Lastly, 50% of the USA already is on an insurance plan that has the same birth control policy in place. I don’t see anyone jumping up ‘N down over the plans that are in place now… Ugh.
Side note, Xavier University, a Catholic College in Ohio has decided to keep their contraceptive coverage intact. Thank you to University President Michael Graham for at least going along with the law – for now – even in the face of hundreds of online petition signatures from alumni. Even bigger props go out to the University of Dayton – another Catholic school that has been offering birth control for the last 20 years.
