In light of the Muslim outrage over the “Innocence of Muslims”, a lot of politically correct liberals want to appease them so as to not hurt their feelings. There’s even been a lot of talk that maybe there should be restrictions on freedom of speech to protect the religious sensitivities of Muslims and other believers, but the simple truth is that you cannot have freedom of religious without the freedom to blaspheme.
The Christian doctrine of the Trinity is blasphemy to Jews, Muslims, and Arian Christians because they all believe that God is one and that three persons in one god is insane, which it is.
Muslims believe that Jesus was a great prophet and Jews that he was just a normal man or maybe a good teacher, but to say that he was (is) any less than God in the flesh is blasphemy to Christians.
Mormons believe that God was once a mortal man, that he has wives, and that Jesus and Satan are brothers. That’s blasphemy to all three of the Abrahamic faiths.
Catholics pray to saints, something that would be blasphemous for any other Christian or any Jew or Muslim to do.
Adventists believe the pope is the antichrist, while Catholics believe he is the vicar of Christ, the beliefs of each is blasphemy to the other.
Atheists don’t recognize the existence of any god which is blasphemous to Christians, Orthodox Jews, Muslims, and Hindus.
The teaching of evolution or the big bang is blasphemy to conservative Jews, Muslims, and Christians.
The practice of medicine, whether scientific or alternative, is blasphemous to Christian Science and other faith healing cults.
For a Muslim to convert to Christianity or vis versa or either to lose their faith and become an atheist would in and of itself be blasphemy to the religion the person is departing.
When it comes down to it, what’s said in any religious gathering, science classroom, or atheist meetup is offensive to someone’s religious sensitivities. If any belief, idea, or historical figure is taken off the table for criticism, then we all lose.

This very thought came to me shortly after the Innocence Of Muslims news broke. The simple thought was “if Muslims seek blasphemy against their religion, they will find it.” By extension, that holds true for all faiths. I appreciate your clear articulation of that thought.
