As I was thinking more about the Atheism+ stuff, comparing it to what happened with skeptics, humanists, old school atheists, and the new/Gnu atheists and reflecting on what I was pleased to witness at the Reason Rally. It appears that as far as all of the non-theistic movements and groups go, there’s very common divergence and convergence. Heck, I’ve even seen that in the last year and a half with local groups here in Boise.
When one group leaves to develop something new, we should all let them do that. Sometimes it’s good, other times it’s bad. However there are really only two ways that it’s likely to go.
Option 1 – They diverge, fail, fall apart, and rejoin the group. It sucks when that happens, but we can all learn from the experience they had and assemilate that knowledge back into the collective.
Option 2 – They diverge, advance, settle into a unique niche, then rejoin the collective, bringing their distinctiveness that they’ve developed to strengthen the collective.
Either way, it’s good for us all.
In case your wondering, when Star Trek: Voyager was on TV, I didn’t get the channel it was on. I’m now working my way through the series and decided to borrow a little Borg language for poetic effect. Please, do not read too much into the metaphorical language, but let it stand as a warning to the religious anyway. Your faith is futile, you will be assimilated.
