John Lennon’s godless ballad “Imagine” is great, here’s A Perfect Circle’s cover of it, followed by my thoughts on the topic.

And no religion too

I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one…

Just imagine how the world would be if there was no religion, if people just lived for today instead of an eternity they’ll never see.

• Family planning world wide would be unopposed allowing for women to control their reproduction, gain education and start careers before starting a family, being able to provide adequately for their families, and being able to choose whether or not to have families. Within a generation or two population growth could be under control, standard of living in impoverished areas would rise, and lack of necessary resources like food and clean water could be a thing of the past.
• Nobody would be discriminated against, harassed, assaulted, or killed for who they love.
• Nobody would be discriminated against, harassed, assaulted, or killed for their beliefs or lack thereof.
• Leaders would sit down and think rather than kneel down and pray before starting wars.
• People could stop fighting over who gets to control the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. We could have peace in the Middle East.
• Democracy could actually survive in the Middle East without the need for a king or military to use their absolute power to protect the people’s liberties from themselves.
• Schools would be unhindered in the teaching of science and history.

Now try to imagine what would happen if people lived for a tomorrow they could actually create.
