Since Memorial Day is a US federal holiday, you’ll hear and see people say “happy Memorial Day”, but it doesn’t fit. Memorial Day is just that, a memorial to those who have fallen. Considering all of our recent and/or on going wars most of us have loved ones who have served in combat and far too many have loved one’s who have fallen. Memorial Day is not a joyous day, it is not a tribute to the living, it is to honor those who have lost their lives in the service of their country.
Fitting for the occasion is “Purple Heart” by Sabaton. This video includes the lyrics (granted there are some errors) and features clips from the move Blackhawk Down as well as videos of honor guards (although since the song talks about Rangers and movie features Rangers and Delta Force, a Marine honor guard doesn’t quite fit).
