It’s quit ironic that three late great famous atheists and freethinkers have their birthday on the 13th of April, which this year is one of three terrifying days for the superstitious.
Starting with the most recent, there is Christopher Hitchens, born April 13, 1949 and died on December 15, 2011 due to complications from cancer.
Next we have Madalyn Murray O’Hair, born April 13, 1919 and died when she was murdered on September 29, 1995. O’Hair was the founder of American Atheists and won Murray v. Curlett (consolidated with Abington School District v. Schempp), in which the US Supreme Court struck down official Bible reading in puplic schools.
Finally we have Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 – July 4, 1826), the author of the Declaration of Independence, third President of the United States, champion of secularism, and a freethinker who had no trouble with literally cutting all the bullshit out of the Bible.
