Red Bull Or Common Sense?
In a chuckle-worthy South African Red Bull commercial, the Christians brought some hurt feelings.  The South African Muslim Judicial Council brought the anger warning of “secular extremism”, saying:

Insult and satire (of Jesus targets) the very foundation of Islamic theology. Christ is a revered prophet in Islam.

I’m just going to let you decide if they are over reacting to Red Bull’s commercial.  Then again, I’m sure Theo van Gogh would have preferred getting a letter.

Bill Donohue is Strong With the Crazy
Bill Donohue, a member of a Catholic church and owner of CatholicLeague.org (not affiliated with the church) has taken up the mantle to defend all of the people in the church that are accused of rape and abuse.  Sounds noble, right?  Sounds great until he says he wants to take the fight to every rape victim of the church.  Get high paid lawyers for the accused, take all the victims to court, and turn each case into an episode of Law and Order: SVU.

Has anyone not heard the crazy that Bill Donohue writes in the name of Catholics everywhere?  Granted, he does not actually speak for the church, but you wouldn’t know that if you listened to him.  I have a feeling the Church uses Billy to their advantage on occasion.  Other times they have plausible deniability when he rants about something even the Bishops can’t support.  Yet another man on the internet that should not be given the time of day by the media… But sensational headlines make for great ratings.

If you are by chance Catholic and read this post, please take a moment to peruse Billy’s site.  Ask yourself if this is the kind of man you want representing you in the media.  If not, tell your priests and bishops.  Put a little fire under your religious leaders feet.   Write your diocese and ask them to publicly distance themselves from Billy.

Great News For Aussies
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in Australia just had document get leaked to the media where they
and give homeopathy both barrels. In this PDF, the NHMRC states,

NHMRC’s position is that it is unethical for health practitioners to treat patients using homeopathy, for the reason that homeopathy (as a medicine or procedure) has been shown not to be efficacious.

This paper is based on the findings of the British government a couple years ago.  England has not taken a stand on the sale and use of homeopathy even though they found it is no more effective than placebo.  It looks like the Aussies might be taking a real step to remove or severely limit the use of homeopathy in their country.  Cheers to them.  =)

I hope to see each and every one of you at the Northwest Free-thought Convention close to Seattle, Washington in a couple weeks!
