Diviners Issue Proclamation
After decades of divination, Harold Camping, is calling it quits on the apocalypse Judgment Day prophesy business. He predicts that he and his followers will no longer try to forecast the calling of all the *good* Christians to heaven before the rest of us sinners are tortured for eternity. In a written statement, Harold and the staff of Family Radio express their disappointment in getting the date wrong. They talk about their group getting humbled by god in the face of this embarrassing mistake. They even praise the event since His word got spread around the world.

What I do not see is a single statement from Harold himself. There is a butt-ton of ‘we’ but not a single ‘I’ to be found. Harold is over 90 and even had a mild stroke shortly after his May prediction. However, if he is still competent enough to get around on his own and form coherent sentences, then he is competent enough to directly apologize to the families he ripped apart.

The biggest thing I do not see is repentance toward the dead man’s family, the attempted murders/suicide victims or the thousands of scared people who bought this hokum. All hook, line, and sinker. Harold never utters an actual apology to anyone.

I don’t care about his age. As a repeat prophesy offender, this man should spend the rest of his life in jail for inciting violence, death, and ruining peoples lives. I don’t care if Harold drinks the Kool-Aid also. He is a conman and a snake oil salesman. This man is not sorry for the damage that he caused. Let all the families have their day in civil court if they want to sue the company. Criminal charges and jail should be in Harold’s future. Its times like this that I wish hell was a real place.

Finally, why does the FCC still allow Family Radio to broadcast? I know religious stations almost always get the most leeway given to them, but there are precedents. Rev. Charles Coughlin was shut down in 1939 due to anti-Semitic broadcasts because of World War II security issues. If your ire has been raised over the months and years, then there is no time like the present. I’m sure the FCC would love to hear from you.

For Teh Lulz
Anonymous gave me a chuckle today. It seems LulzSec is not down for the count and they proved it yet again. Most of Wednesday, Anonymous took down many of the Vatican’s web sites. Anon has also taken down several North Carolina church web sites this past week and replaced them with Richard Dawkins TED Talk video (below) and this written statement:

Let us be clear from the start: any kind of religion is a sickness to this world. A sickness thatcreates hate and intolerance, a sickness that brings people to wage war on their fellow people, a sickness that has come to this world long time ago, when mankind wasn’t educated, a sickness that brought false hope and suppression to those who believed and often even more terror and suppression to those who dared not to believe.
Religions are authoritarian hierarchies, designed to dominate your free will. Religions are mind control. They’re power structures that aim to convince you to give away your power for the benefit of those who enjoy dominating people. When you subscribe to a religion, you enroll in a mindless minion training program. Religions don’t market themselves as such, but this is essentially how they operate. In case you ever wondered why religious teachings are invariably mysterious, confusing, and incongruent? This is no accident – it’s intentional.
We see religion pretty much the same way as we see many governments. Fear mongering and making lots of money, so a small group of ppl will become insanely rich, while the believing masses can eat dirt. As long as they are afraid that “omgomg god will come and strike great vengeance upon me” all is good.

While I strongly disagree with their methods, I would be lying if I said I do not generally agree with the group on this issue.

This is the Only Israel I Will Ever Miss

Feeling rather melancholy. Wanted to share one of my top 5 songs with you all.  I always smile after listening to the big guy.  Wish he was still around.

I hope to see each and every one of you at the Northwest Free-thought Convention close to Seattle, Washington in three weeks!
