Photos of Gay People = EVIL
I’m happy to say that Washington State is poised to become the seventh state to legalize gay marriage. There is of course a religious loophole for churches to not perform a wedding ceremony if they oppose gay marriage. There is no such provision for wedding related businesses like wedding planners, bakers and photographers.
Of course someone had to show their colors sooner or later. In quite possibly the most disturbing article I’ve read this week, people discuss the effects of gay marriage in Washington State. More specifically, how gay marriage *could* effect business owners in those wedding related fields. The man who represents Christian business owners that are opposed to gay marriage is accountant and part time wedding photographer, Lee White. Lee is a Christian that won’t compromise his faith. In fact, he would rather move to another state than stay in Washington if this law passes.
I have friends who are gay, but I’m not going to shoot their wedding. I’ll be friends with them and love them and serve them and pray for them.
The thing is, Washington State has had anti-discrimination laws to protect same sex couples since 2006. Lee and other business owners have not seen the rash of lawsuits from the gay community that he fears. In fact, only 48 complaints have been registered since 2006. It pains me to see such bigoted people live around me. I hope he takes that condescending eye of his and looks at himself soon. Even unenlightened people can replace the words “gay marriage” with any ethnic/religious marriage to take a simple “Am I an Asshat test”.
When looking for services from businesses that provide these services, take a minute to ask them what their feelings are on this subject and other things that you care about. Please vote with your wallet and go somewhere else if they fail the test.
Twenty One Million
Irish born former Catholic priest, Oliver O’Grady, was just sentenced to 3 years in jail after the authorities found thousands of child pornography photos on his laptop last year. Is this what it takes to get laicized (defrocked)? Or it could be the over 25 boys and girls that he confessed to molesting on two continents. Or the two brothers that he was finally convicted of molestation – serving 7 of the 14 year sentence. The catholic church has paid 21 million dollars so far for this one priest. Wow.
Ok, so the pope only owns the 3rd most land in the world. Therefore, 21 million dollars is only a drop in a vast bucket to him. I’m betting the number of unreported molestations is a drop in the bucket too. But the more times the church has to compensate victims, the bigger that drop gets. Sure would give me a chuckle if the Ratzinger had to pawn his Pope-mobile to pay the bills.
Occupy… With Force
Know the first thing I think of when anyone mentions the Occupy Wall Street groups? Military precision. The elite skill of our proud military forces. So it came as no surprise when Barth E. Bracy said the same thing on LifeSiteNews.com about a splinter cell called Occupy Providence. Everyone needs to be aware of their tactics. Barth E. Bracy (I just love this guys name!) is quoted saying,
[Occupy Providence] strategically fanned out with military precision. That’s when they started showering condoms down on some of the girls from a Catholic high school.
The Occupy Providence group even went so far as to chant loudly while Barth E. Bracy was speaking. This forced Barth E. Bracy to only deliver about a quarter of his keynote address. The splinter group even went so far as to bump into people while they walked through the crowd. I know there might have been a dirty hippy in there. Anyone that was bumped might think about getting a tetanus shot. Finally, it’s a sad day when the group drown out the closing prayer set to be given by a Catholic priest.
Do whatever you need to support your family and keep them safe from such abuses. Good luck and good night.
Scientology is Kind
Debbie Cook is getting sued by her handlers church because of her New Years email where she said the church of Scientology is greedy and is not following The Source as written by Lafayette Ronald Hubbard. I’m not going to go over all the details when Tony at the Village Voice has done such a great job of it already. I just felt the need to write a couple lines and do some simple math…
Debbie and her husband both signed Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) concerning the church. Debbie is currently being sued for $300,000 dollars by the church for a breach of that contract. Among the causes built into the contract, the church of Scientology can sue for a minimum of $100,000 dollars for “each disparaging Internet posting, each television broadcast or each newspaper story”. Scientology is alleging Debbie’s email reached 24 million people. By those figures, the church could have asked for in excess of 2.4 trillion dollars. I suppose Scientology is taking it easy on Debbie after all.
Hey Debbie, if you ever want to continue being a nice, helpful person, and drop the woo of Scientology, I know the skeptical community would like to have you. =)
I hope to see each and every one of you at the Northwest Free-thought Convention close to Seattle, Washington in a couple months!
