White Wine in the Sun

With Christmas only a few days away, I think it’s time for Tim Minchin’s White Wine in the Sun.

Oh, and as the solstice will be upon us tomorrow, we are at the darkest time of the year, except for here in Boise, ID where the sun is shining brightly. Yes, the sun is only up for 9 hours and it’s cold, but at least it’s sunny and I just thought that perhaps I should rub that in…

  1. Love this song, and the animation is a nice touch.

Small problem, Tim is from Australia, where christmas is in the middle of summer.

  2. Nevermind, I complained too early.

  3. Dustin, thanks for posting this. You introduced me to Tim Minchin a year ago with this song, and my life has been better for it. I find the song poingant; the glow of the holidays is brightest in the past, when we were young. Winter celebration brings on an inevitable bout of nostalgia, and we fade back to that innocence.

Something of this innocence smacks of vulnerable early primates, turning inwards during the most fearful of times. I'm almost wondering about some kind of racial memory that sends us back to the fetal position, looking for teet to suckle. I'm going to shake the last minutes off with a glass of red wine, lit by monitor glare.

    Io Saturnalia! Hail Solstice!
