The flexibility of science

It’ll be covered a little more in next week’s science news, but CERN has observed a neutrino travel just slightly faster than the speed of light. This observation has huge ramifications for physics since one of the foundational principles of Special Relativity is the speed of light being not only constant but the absolute top speed anything can travel.
Some people think that science’s ability to adapt to new evidence is an epistemological weakness, but it most certainly is not. The fact that scientists are willing to challenge the norm and don’t reject evidence because it doesn’t fit with what’s generally accepted is awesome. I would love to see religion do that, oh wait, there are a handful of liberal denominations who already do.
