Robertson wonders if it’s a sign from God. That’s easy to respond to: No, it’s physics. Earthquakes happen. Sure, they are a lot more common on the West Coast than the East Coast, but even on the East Coast you can expect an earthquake like that every century or so.
So, what are the cracks in the Washington Monument a sign of? Namely that the people who designed a built the edifice didn’t plan for earthquakes, that, and it’s old.
If you look at the granite and limestone ruins of the Greek and Roman empires of antiquity, there’s a common trend: Those which weren’t destroyed by opposing armies were by and large wiped out by earthquakes and volcanoes. As it turns out, a granite structure doesn’t do well in an earthquake.
Now, I don’t want to seem too extreme here, but this just makes me curious about whether or not Pat Robertson is an idiot.

Oh the upside, a monolith shouldn't be too difficult to repair.
