When you go to an atheist conference you get to meet a lot of cool people. One of them I met at the Northwest Freethought Conference was Dustin Finney. He was actually the last person I spoke with before heading back to Boise.
Dustin shared with me in an email a few weeks later that he had been offered a position on the board of the Portland chapter of Americans United. He was also trying to organize an SSA chapter at Portland Community College, and was involved in a few other groups, including CFI.
Unfortunately while riding his bike yesterday morning he was hit by an SUV driven by someone who was under the influence. He didn’t survive.
Always watch out for bicycles and if you’ve had too much to drink (or anything else) it is so worth it to just take a cab.
He will be missed at next year’s conference…
