Will the Government Shutdown?

In case you haven’t been following the news, here’s the scoop:

  • The FY 2011 Federal Budget hasn’t been passed yet.
  • The US Government has been operating on resolutions that allow last years spending to continue.
  • President Obama has vowed to veto any further extensions.
  • House Republicans voted to defund Planned Parenthood.
  • Senate Democrats have conceded to just about all House budget cuts, except for the defunding of Planned Parenthood.
  • Speaker Boehner is refusing to compromise.
  • Rep Bachmann and former Gov Huckabee have asked the Speaker to compromise. 
What seems ridiculous here is that Senate Democrats conceded $35 billion, but House Republicans won’t concede less than $1 billion. This is politics, compromise is the name of the game, and that’s beside the fact that Planned Parenthood by offering sexual education and low cost contraceptives saves the government a lot of money on welfare. 
If you’re so inclined, you can sign a letter to support Planned Parenthood and encourage the Speaker to compromise.
