He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
-Matthew 18:2-3 (NIV)
It is often said that we must have the faith of a child. So let’s break that down. Children have no problem believing in the following:
- Unicorns
- Leprechauns
- Imaginary Friends
- Santa Claus
- The Tooth Fairy
- The Easter Bunny
- God (oops, I’m getting redundant)
Why do kids buy into these lies? Kids believe in myths because an authority tells them to. So the faith of a child is the blind acceptance of an authority whether that be parents, pastors, priests, or books.
I think we should instead appeal to the reason of adults.
