What About the Trinity?

Ehrman stumbling over the three gods or one god thing is humorous, but a good point. When I was a young theology student I always had trouble with the concept of the trinity. Three does not equal one. It’s just bad math. I had to study all the logical word games that attempt to make three equal one that theologians have developed over the centuries, but they’re just confusing messes of bad logic. The only way people can “understand” the trinity is to admit that they don’t understand it and chock it up to being a “mystery” of God. That’s really got to be one of the most annoying cop outs that Christians (and other believers have). Saying it’s a mystery doesn’t answer the question. Saying it’s beyond understanding is not an answer. What you mean to say is, “I don’t know.”

At least no one expects humility from someone who’s babbling about nonsense. At least Protestants can drop the charade since it’s all part of nearly 500 year old Catholic conspiracy.
